Most Likely To Give Music A Leading Role - Squarespace

August 2020

“Matt Rose is the definition of a multi-hyphenate. The recent college grad is a composer, producer, and music supervisor for all types of media including theater, film, tv, and advertising — “a one-stop shop for everything,” he says.

When he started majoring in Music Business, Matt saw the business and artistic aspects of the program as two separate things. “And it wasn’t really until a year, a year and a half, later that I realized those two things don’t have to be mutually exclusive,” he shares. Now, he thrives on the overlap — where the logistics can help the creative and vice versa.

But music itself has always been the focal point. Matt says the thesis for all of his work is “making music something that is consciously thought of, instead of just passively absorbed.” His most recent project, The Oldenburg Suite, shows his interest in using music to help tell a narrative by giving historical and cultural context, and combining multiple influences and genres. “That’s exactly how I would describe all of the work that I do. It’s very heavily rooted in pastiche,” Matt says. [Read More]

Music Business College Graduates Stay Upbeat Despite Grim Job Market - Variety

By Jem Asward - June 24th, 2020

…Another Steinhardt graduate considering his options is Matt Rose, 22, who until March had hoped that a successful internship at Paradigm Talent Agency might lead to a position at the company or elsewhere in live entertainment. “I really wanted to work at an agency, but now I’m looking for anything in music, film/TV or both,” he says. He’s been interning at Manhattan Theatre Club from his parents’ home in Philadelphia and working on friends’ endeavors, including a podcast, and music supervision and freelance songwriting for theater projects. “It would be easy to say that I wish the school would do more” to help with his job search, he says, “but NYU prepared us really well and gave us a comprehensive set of skills, so I really can’t complain.”… [read more]

Montclair Theatre Project’s The Oldenburg Suite - Montclair Local

By Gwen Orel - January 1st, 2020

One brother was a world famous sculptor. The other brother ran the Museum of Modern Art. The relationship of sculptor Claes Oldenburg to his brother Richard, and the relationship of Pop Art to the heady time of the 1960s and 1970s, inspired MHS grad and Brown University student James Feinberg to write the book and lyrics to “The Oldenburg Suite.” The sung-through concert, which will have two performances this weekend at Montclair State University, takes place from 1969 to 1981. Claes Oldenburg is known for his enormous sculptures of everyday objects, such as a lipstick or a trowel. MoMA, meanwhile, was threatened with bankruptcy, and other issues…. [Read More]

By Gwen Orel - April 12th, 2018

For the first time, Montclair Film Festival will show its own promo short film before features: a music video with an original song, “Let’s go to the Movies,” shot in Montclair.

“It’s the first time we’ve created any of our own content,” said Montclair Film Festival (MFF) Chairman of the Board Bob Feinberg, in an exclusive interview with Montclair Local. “We’ve shown other peoples’ films, but never really made anything ourselves.”

The “sizzle reel,” as such promo films are called in the festival world, will be shown in the larger venues of the festival, which takes place April 26-May 6, and possibly at other events, Feinberg said…. [Read More]
